Join the East Coast Gaffers for the first event of 2017 at Tollesbury.

Entry £7.50 per boat. Please register by emailing the form to Alison or Clare. If you fancy a bacon roll on Sunday morning please let us know when you register so the club have some idea.

This is a small boat event, but is you wish to come with a larger boat Tollesbury Marina can accommodate you. Arrive on Friday night or Saturday morning to sign in, ready for a race briefing around noon at the Sailing Club. Camper vans may stay overnight at the Gibbons Engineering car park in Woodrolfe Road. Unfortunately the shower block at the Sailing Club is in the process of being rebuilt and is un-available, but showers can be taken at the Marina. Please contact Alison Cable for more information.

Registration at the club house will start from 10:30, with the race briefing there at 12:30.

The race itself will start at 14:00 with full safety cover provided by the Sailing Club. High water is at 15:11, and it is expected that all boats will be back at the hard by 16:11.

The artist Claudia Myatt has promised to come along to the event, and after the race she will be offering a workshop, called "Ketches and Sketches". This is free, with a small charge for materials if you do not bring your own. She will also be selling some of her merchandise. As the author of the latest RYA start sailing dinghy series some of the newer sailers might find it fun to meet her! The prizegiving will take place after Claudia finishes, and then all participants are invited to head up the road to the Kings Head Pub, where there will be a hog roast from 18:00, with the gaffers having first dibs. Those who remember the first event can rest assured; this hog roast will be inside the pub, and the food is guaranteed hot! The landlord has laid on extra beer, including a special barrel of "Old Gaffer".  At 3.9abv he describes this as a good session beer! Live music starts at 21:00.

Sunday's events are subject to the weather being friendly, but unless it is pouring with rain or blowing a gale the plan is to recover from the night before in the morning with a gentle stroll round the creek, saltings, and marina, following clues in a treasure hunt. After lunch, once there is enough water to launch the boats, a flotilla will set off to explore the route to West Mersea where there may be time for a quick drink at the pub before turning back towards Tollesbury and heading home.

Whet your appetite by watching the video of some boats participating in 2015 and take a look at the gallery of photos from previous events.
