This popular friendly event is in its 30th year but sadly our sponsors Sutton Harbour Holdings who have generously hosted us in their marina in the historic Barbican area for the last ten years are not in a position to accomodate us this year. We have been unable to secure sponsorship in time for this years Rally.
South' b' Sou' West Plymouth stopover
But for the sail "South' b' Sou' West" fleet Yachthaven Marina, near Turnchapel have come to the rescue. They will give us cut priced berthing rafted up together and full use of their very fine facilities. There is a Bar, bistro and restaurant on site and a renowned real ale pub half a mile away in Turnchapel village. This is an interesting area with the marina sited where the WW2 flying boats and their fast recovery boats were berthed. The former RAF Mountbatten is nearby.
South West Gaffers are organising a "mini Classics" which will be a three day event. Arrival of boats is planned for the Friday 28th July. There will be a welcome and get together that evening where you will be briefed on arrangements. A Parade of Sail passed Plymouth Citadel is planned for the Saturday afternoon and a Race in the Sound on Sunday afternoon. Music and revelry is organised for both evenings. Boats leave for the Scillies in the morn. The Fastnet race boats should be coming in and will need that pontoon in the next days.
Most South West Gaffers boats will join the fleet in Plymouth although some will already have done so at the Brixham stopover. Local non OGA boats will also join in during the event.
So it's time to join the OGA South'b'Sou'West Cruise in Company: contact Ben Collins and sign up. The more the merrier!
