DBOGA invites you to join our next Zoom session The Dublin Bay 21s - The World's Oldest Cruiser Racer Class 1903-2022 , which will be given by Hal Sisk on Thursday 27th January at 20.00hrs.

On the 30th July 2021 three Dublin Bay 21s, Estelle, Garravogue and Naneen sailed from Arklow to the National Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire and created a new chapter in the history of Irish Sailing. In times past before they ceased racing in 1986 the 1903-founded Dublin Bay 21s, designed by Alfred Mylne, were regular participants in yacht racing around the bay.

Since 1986 many observers had reconciled themselves to the permanent disappearance of the class. Thanks to Fionan de Barra, keeping the faith, with the major solution-finding input of Hal Sisk allied to the remarkable skills of boatbuilder Steve Morris of Kilrush new life was breathed into the oldest intact one-design keelboat class in the world. As Chairman of the Association of Yachting Historians, Hal is of the view that the Dublin Bay 21 was the world’s first cruiser-racer. 

In this Zoom talk Hal will describe the history of the Dublin Bay 21s, the project of bringing seven, nearly 120 year old one-design keelboats back to life and the plan for their future use and custodianship.
