The West Mersea Regatta day is held every year.
https://www.mersearegatta.org.uk/
An eclectic set of fleets race in the morning: Smacks, other working boats, classic boats, modern boats and more. And in the afternoon, as the tide floods the foreshore, there are fun and games on the water and ashore. From their website:
"Getting underway in the afternoon with a variety of rowing and sculling Races, an outboard motor balloon race and a swimming race.
The final event is ‘Walking The Greasy Pole’ which is rigged over the side of the Thames Barge Committee Boat.
Entries for the Watersports are free and entering is not required – just be on the start line in a suitable boat for the event."
And the day is topped off with a great firework display at 9pm.
This year we are seeking to have a forest of OGA Flags amongst the various fleets. The East Coast OGA President’s Race will run within the overall Regatta Fleets, with prizes for OGA boats based on corrected times.
There will be no OGA Booking for this event - please enter the racing using the entry form which will be available on the Regatta website and let Ed Roberts know you are going to be there.
