Getting to and around Harwich
Train
- Harwich Town station is just over 20 minutes from Manningtree.
- There is a regular hourly service between Manningtree and Harwich from 6am until after 11pm.
- There are frequent trains to Manningtree from London Liverpool Street and also from Peterborough, Cambridge and Norwich
Car
- Harwich is easily reached via the A120, about 25 minutes from the A12 at Colchester.
- There is free street parking on The Quay and in Wellington Road within walking distance of both venues.
- We strongly suggest however that you travel from Manningtree to Harwich Town, with an easy walk to the venue, on our beautiful branch line. There is a large car park at Mainningtree Rail Station.
Plane
- Stansted Airport is just over an hour away from Harwich by car and about two hours by bus and train.
Ferry
- There is a regular ferry service from The Hook of Holland to Harwich Parkstone Quay, a short distance from the town.
Small Boat
- For the intrepid, the Halfpenny Pier, opposite the Pier Hotel, has berthing for small boats on a first come, first served basis.
- It will be free to moor because it is unattended in January, with public toilets opposite.
- However, storms may make it untenable, and it can be slightly uncomfortable during some wind directions.

Staying in Harwich and nearby Dovercourt
Premier Inn, Harwich – approx. 40 minute walk to Harwich Town Sailing Club, a 20 minute walk to Harwich International Station with a short journey to Harwich Town Train Station, there is a bus stop nearby that will head into town (the 102 route, please check the timetable)
Travelodge, Harwich - this is near to the Premier Inn, and so travel arrangements are as above.
The Alma Inn, this is in central Harwich.
The Pier Hotel (there are rooms where we are having supper)
Various B&B’s or AirBnB’s in Harwich town – The Old Post Office, Fishermen’s cottage, Driftwood Cottage, Sea View, Haven Hideaway and more. All within short walking distance to Harwich Town Sailing Club.
Staying further afield
Mistley - five-minute walk to Mistley Train Station to get to Harwich Town.
- The Mistley Thorn - The hotel overlooks Mistley Quay, the subject of a long-term battle for river access.
Manningtree - a 20-minute walk to Mistley Train Station to get to Harwich Town.
Dedham - a 30 minute drive from Harwich.
There are also several AirBnB’s in Manningtree and on the way to Harwich, but several will require car or taxi to get to and from Harwich Town Sailing Club or a train station.
