Visit to Crinan Boatyard 15th June 2024
A select group of Scottish members had a good look round the boat yard, and spent time examining Rawanah, being restored by Jon Reid who was our guide for the day....
Lugger Fest 11-12 May in Ullapool
A great time was had by all at this event, with bright sunshine on Friday and Saturday, and even a little wind. Sunday afternoon was rather wet, with thunder and strong gusts....
Sunshine in Oban
Over 20 boats assembled in Kerrera Marina for the start of the pary on Friday 16th June. The light winds meant that most boats arrived under engine, but the blue skies and hot sun made Oban feel almost mediteranean....

May 24th 2025 Start of Season Meet up

The Start of Season meet up was a great success, with two boats in attendance, (although one was on a trailer). Eight people got together to enjoy a short talk on cruising the west coast of Greenland, followed by a buffet meal.

We hope to hold this event again next year, as it is proving a great way to meet up with different members.

Contact scotsec@oga.org.uk to let me know what date would be most suitable in 2026!

Area AGM on 15th November

The Scottish Area AGM will be hosted at Kenmuir, G84 0PX. The house will be open from 1.30pm with a short meeting at 2 pm followed by afternoon tea, and letting people get away in the light. There will be an opportunity to attend online. We will send out a ZOOM link two weeks before the event, after which we need to hear how many people will be able to attend in person.

We are looking for a treasurer again, as Terrence is unable to continue. Thanks to Terrence for setting up a bank account. We are always open to people nominating themselves for any post, including president and secretary.

The OGA has been investigating changing its structure from an unincorporated association to some form of limited liability organisation. This might make it easier for people to become officers. If anyone has relevant experience of this, we would love to hear it. At the recent Association Committee, it was agreed to adopt some RYA recommended changes to our rules and you can read those in the upcoming Gaffers Log.

One option might be for each area to do their own thing. What do you think about Scotland becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation? It would limit our liabilities, allow us to apply for grants, have stalls at events reserved for charities, and help the other areas learn what being a CIO would mean.

As usual, we'd love to hear of any ideas to get new members.

We will also discuss what events we should hold next year and when. We are thinking of a rally in the Clyde, participating in Luggerfest at Ullapool in May and some social get-togethers. If you know other events happening, or want something close to you, come and talk about it.

Hope to see you there!
