Sail Repair Course 18th January 2026
This will be a one-day course comprising sail repair tuition by Mark Matthews (Lyme Regis Boatbuilding Academy tutor). The event will be hosted at picturesque Buckler’s Hard on the Beaulieu River. More details to follow, but this promises to be a most interesting day and a great social opportunity too!
The course will include the following:
- A look at materials and how sails are constructed
- How to look after your sails and covers
- Check over of sails – wear and tear, what to look out for that may need repair
- Equipment to have in your repair kits
- Learn how to use a needle and palm
- Hands on basic sail repairs including – Patch repairs to damaged areas and tears, replacing damaged leech line cleats and replacing/reinforcing attachment rings, hanks etc.
All materials and tools will be supplied on the day and there will also be a selection of repair kits and items (eg. palms, thread, repair tape etc.) for delegates to purchase should they wish.
