I recently had the pleasure of attending a three day ornamental knot tying course organised by the lovely, (and extremely patient!) Sue Pennison. The course took place over three Sundays, one before and two after all the Christmas festivities. Maggie and Huw hosted the event in their beautiful house in Godalming – eight of us and two dogs. The days were very relaxed and informative with breaks for tea and delicious soup – Moroccan Tangine I believe.

Sue started us off gently with three and four strand plaits, some tied with pairs of cords. By the time we moved onto four strand crown sennits, thump mats and Turk’s heads things were beginning to get a lot more challenging. On the third day Sue helped us to put our new found skills into practice to make lovely little key fobs, using a Matthew Walker knot (very tricky) moving into a crown sennit and finishing with a footrope knot.

We all enjoyed our three days immensely, and Sue has volunteered to run further sessions once she has returned from her adventures in Tasmania.
