About us
We are the centre of gaff rigged sailing on the South Coast and one of the leading areas in the country.
We organise a range of events over the year, both on and off the water. Our focus is on sociable, family friendly, gatherings. Some include racing, all demonstrate the good-humoured enthusiasm, friendship and mutual assistance that typifies the OGA. In addition, we encourage members to join in with the increasing number of classic and traditional rally and racing events that take place in the Solent each season.
Solent Gaffer waters span the central south coast of England, roughly from Brighton to Weymouth. Chichester Harbour to the East, provides a unique area of safe sailing and anchoring, with channels feeding inland to Emsworth, Bosham and to Chichester itself. Poole Harbour to the West also offers safe sailing for smaller boats as well as quiet anchorages and access to the busy town.
Our centre of gravity, both in terms of member numbers and activities, is within the Solent itself which offers a great variety of ports, harbours and creeks to explore and enjoy. We try to make use of as much of the area as possible, with events moving between harbours.
We hope you will join us, whether you own a gaff-rigged boat, or not.
