The second (in 2026) of the West Country Classics series. Based on the River Dart and organised by the Royal Dart YC.

Once again we will be based at Mayflower Marina.. This weekend precedes Fowey Classics, which starts a day earlier on the Monday and will lead directly on to Looe Luggers & Classics the following weekend.  We welcome OGA boats and Members from all OGA Areas, if you are in the SW.

Alongside berthing, if booked, is subsidised, for the Friday and Saturday nights. Including for smaller boats, once launched. There may be parking available at the Marina.  There are other places, such as the Mountbatten Water Sports Centre, from which to launch trailed boats, or they can be launched directly into the marina. 

The SW Area's annual Race is on the Saturday 25th of July, in Plymouth Sound, under the auspices of Plym YC, as usual.  There will be a Race Briefing outside Jolly Jacks at 11:30 with the first race start at 13:00  There will probably be 3 Classes and we should be back in time for the Prize Giving at 18:00 followed by dinner at Jolly Jacks.

There will probably go by ferry form the Marina to Mt. Edgcumbe on the Sunday, there are plenty of other options in Plymouth.  Depart Monday morning, many towards Fowey.

Looe Luggers is a well established event for locally built boats and luggers.  in 2025 it expanded to include traditionally rigged boats of any construction, including GRP.  It is the fourth, this year of the, now, four events in he West Country Classics series.

This year, to accomodate the tides it will follow directly from Fowey Classics.  Three days of festivities ashore, mainly on the west bank of the harbour, with music, beer and food, as well as sailing afloat, are promised at this traditional seaside town.  (Photo 2025 David Patuck)

Several gaffers attended in 2025 and enjoyed three races, over two days, amongst some magnificanet old and newer local luggers.  If the settled conditions of last year are repeated, anchoring outside the harbour is an excellent option.  Those with legs will prefer drying out in the center of town!

After several years and many changes, Charlestown Harbour is now reopened with it's refurbished lock gates, working since Easter.  It is hoped that this new event will pave the way to a regular event, to be repeated in Summer 2027.

It is now (June 22nd) confirmed that there will be alongside berthing (via tidal lock) frrom Friday  28th and Saturday 28th August  until Wednesday 2nd September, as required and subject to tidal restraints.  They are keen to establish this event for traditionally rigged yachts and are very keen to welcome gaffers of any size and construction.

The main shore side joilties will be over the bank holiday weekend. This would be an opportunity for berthing alongside at an otherwise busy time of year, in a delightful and quirky village, with pubs a museum and other fixed attractions.   Although exposed to the SE, once inside it will be sheltred, as is the anchorage from the prevailing West and North.

The organisers have created a short form, no need for money at this stage.  They woould like an idea of possible numbers.
