Online Learning Series

For the first time, there will be an Online Learning programme for the OGA Younger Members. Any non-members can attend one session for free but a membership will be required to join more than one. Sessions will range from racing technique, new skills, career guidance from professional skippers and crew, boatbuilders, traditional craftsmen and more... All sessions will be done over Zoom and recordings can be shared with those who sign up.

Join Hannah Cunliffe and Maddie Phillips in a fireside chat about their careers working with historic ships and maritime conservation.

The first session in the OGA Younger Members Winter Learning Series will feature Hannah Cunliffe (Director of National Historic Ships UK) and Maddie Phillips (Conservator and shipkeeing technician on the Cutty Sark at Royal Museums Greenwich), chaired by Georgina Tall (OGA Younger Member Secretary).

Hannah and Maddie will share how they entered their career fields, what they would have liked to know when starting in the field and their favourite projects and experiences. This session is perfect for anyone interested in a career working with historic ships and/or maritime conservation and archaeology, or anyone curious about this area!

Althought hosted by the OGA Younger Members, all OGA members and non-members are welcome to attend.

Learn... to do Winter Rigging Checks - 02 December 2025, 5.30pm

For our second session, we will be tutoured by the very knoweldgeable Sue Pennsion (Solent Gaffers Sailing Secretary, Founder of 'Rigging & Ropework'). Sue will be taking us through the essential checks we should all be doing over the Winter on our rigging. Regardless of the size of your boat from a small smacks dinghy to a Thames barge or Bristol pilot cutter, all rigging have the same basic fundamentals and checks that need to be done whilst we are either out on the dry or waiting for the next Winter blue sky, good wind and tide.
