Map of where boats were built

This is an experimental page. Both the layout and the data are full of errors. Please point out anything that could be better to the boat register editors.

When we created the current version of the online register, we wanted to have pages for builders and designers.

This map, and the pages it links to start to do that, prompted by a project at Ipswich Maritime Trust.

There is a marker for every “place built” in the register where we have more than one boat. If you click on a marker it will show the builders with boats built at that place. The totals are not accurate, because not every boat has its builder recorded and some boats have more than one builder.

The builders on the popup are links to a page for that builder. At the time of writing, we show:

  • an AI generated summary of data on the web
  • all the boats for that builder
  • a list of other builders at that place
  • a list of the boats recorded as built at the place with no builder listed

It is very early days for the AI summary feature. Sometimes they are quite good and other times they are complete rubbish. We have made sure we list all the sites used so you can see what the system found.

One thing we have learned is that we have many builders with the names spelled differently in different boat records. We've fixed a few of these, notably in Woodbridge. But we would love your help. If you know about a builder or a place, take a look and send us an email if you see something that can be improved. You can see this for Crossfields!
