Attendees on foot took advantage of organised activities and the many attractions in the area.  The Suffolk rivers and coastline are steeped in history. For example:

• Felixstowe Ferry, at the entrance of the River Deben with its notorious entrance, is a fascinating collection of fishermans' buildings, houseboats and boatyard. From here you can take the foot ferry to Bawdsey.
• You can walk from Ipswich to Shotley down the bank of the Orwell. This is varied walk through woodland and open marshes, passing (if you can) the famous 'Butt and Oyster' pub at Pin Mill
• Harwich is steeped in maritime history and is still an active port. Visit museum to explore its past. Whilst a long drive their is a foot ferry which runs between Harwich, Felixstowe and Shotley.
• Felixstowe itself is worth a visit. Now overshadowed by the container port it is hard to believe that this is where Jim came ashore in Arthur Ransome's 'We Didn't Mean to Go To Sea' to get petrol.   Now the town is known for Landguard Fort, the Museum, the Pier and Victorian buildings.
