The OGA is 60 Years Old
The OGA was formed in 1963. We celebrated our Diamond Jubilee around the country with events for small boats, larger boats and people on foot.
A Round Britain Cruise (RBC60) formed a thread throughout the celebrations, joining up the areas and finishing at the four-day Jubilee Party on the River Orwell in Suffolk August 3rd - 6th. You can read about the circumnavigating boats and where they have been on www.sailing-by.org.uk
100 classic yachts and working boats gathered in Ipswich on 3 August, 2023 to welcome the circumnavigators. Vessels ranged from diminutive dinghies to a 100’ gentleman’s yacht, built 1916, a 52’ Bristol pilot cutter built 1905, classic Victorian gentlemen’s yachts, Essex smacks, classic Bermudans and modern GRP pocket cruisers, Shrimpers and Crabbers.
There were two opportunities for the public to get involved and view the magnificent sight of our fleet.

One hundred boats in a procession from under the Orwell Bridge downriver to Levington are a must-see. In the event the torrential rain and wind shortly after the start of the Parafe made an unexpected spectacle which no-one could see through the rain.
The OGA Dartmouth Gin Jubilee Race from Sailing Barge Victor
Sunday 6th August
The OGA organised a cruise on the famous Thames sailing barge Victor, based at Ipswich, to view the magnificent sight of gaff rig boats sailing for the OGA Dartmouth Gin Jubilee Race off Harwich.
