OGA60 Small Boat Events

The OGA60 celebrations were not just for "big" boats. The Area and Small Boats teams planned events around the country for small boats throughout the year.

Ffour small boat events in particular were dedicated to celebrating the OGA's sixty years. The largest event was the Jubilee Party in Levington, running alongside a big boat event marking the end of the Round Britain Cruise. The event was specifically tailored for open boats, with facilities for parking camper vans on site, and other camping available a short walk away. The Solent, Bristol Channel and North West areas also hosted their own small boat events to celebrate.

Langstone 7th - 9th July

 

An informal gathering for boats of all sizes based around Southsea Marina. Langstone Harbour is a large, sheltered expanse of water with areas that dry.

 

River Orwell 4th - 6th August

The  planned four days of open boat fun as part of the Jubilee Party on the River Orwell turned into 2 due to strong winds on the last two days, but everyone came together for meals and socialising in the evenings anbd there were plenty of on shore activities to entertain.

Cardiff Bay 14th - 16th July

Traditional trailable sailing boats celebrated in Cardiff Bay hosted by Cardiff Bay Yacht Club.  Cardiff Bay offers a protected freshwater lake and two rivers - ideal for an open boat event. There was a mix of raids, races and cruise.  And of course meals and music asore.

Ullswater 25th - 28th August

The three-day event over the August Bank Holiday Weekend for small trailerable boats was based at Ullswater Yacht Club on the quiet road to Howtown on the north east side of the lake.  With Hellevyn rising above the lake, Ullswater is seen by many as the most scenic lake and a good time was had by all attendees
