Centreboard
A template is provided with the building jig for the shape of the centreboard. This also has the bolt hole position drilled.
The centreboard can be made from 25mm thick solid or laminated timber. Plywood should not be used as the ply would not take the sailing loads.
The picture here show a board being laminated from 25 * 30 mm cedar strip though any solid timber will be suitable. In the case of Cedar the leading and trailing edges should be nade from something with more impact resistance such as mahogany.
The laminted board should first be planed flat and then cut to shape to match the template.
The board is tapered in thickness from 25mm at the top section where it fits into the case, down to 20mm at the tip.
The airofoil section is shown at two points on the drawing. A tempate will aid the shaping of the section.
The hole for the pivot bolt must be drilled square to the board. It can be bushed with a piece of tube to seal the timber or sealed with epoxy making sure the bolt will go thorough easily.
Once the board is shaped it needs to be coated with epoxy and then painted or varnished.
