Decks
The final stage before fitting the decks is to put 15 mm square battens on all edges where the deck is bonded. This includes a batten along the hull at deck height. The pictures below show the hull ready for the deck with battens fitted. The side tanks have been primed in the lockers formed by the apertures and the inspection hatches have been fitted and then removed so all the fixing holes are in the right place before access becomes more difficult.
Fixing the deck
Dry fit the deck panels to make sure that the joints betwen them a a close fit. The joint between the aft deack and the forward section needs a doubling piece underneath.
Before fitting the forward deck section fit a block on each side of the cockpit to take the screws for the jib fairleads. The position and size of this will depend on the jib faileads being used.
There are few places where clamps can be used to hold the deck panels down so other methods must be used. Here a temporary wedge is used to hold the panel down. Note the close fit between the deck and hull. A small gap can be accomodated as the joint will be finished with a redius of epoxy filler. No glass tape is required on this joint.
A large weight is holding the cente of the deck down and a piece of angle is clamped to the centreboard case to make sure the joint is secure.
A varitey of clamps will be needed.
