Members Only Pages
oga.org.uk doesn't have a way to restrict the visibility of pages. But this is now possible using a feature of the Members Area application.
The feature allows an html representation of a Google Doc to be displayed on an existing page on the website.
There are two mechanisms. One has been used for Gaffers Log and the other for the WhatsApp Groups page.
Member only Files
This uses a folder in the oga-members-only S3 bucket of the Boat Register AWS account. For now, the Boat Register editors will create the folder and upload content for you, Email boatregister@oga.org.uk.
- Email the boat register editors and ask for a new folder.
- Create a page on oga.org.uk in the Schools Online CMS and add a special piece of text naming the folder
- Send your files to the boat register editors
The text on the website page must be something like:
< <folder:Gaffers Log> >
Leave out the spaces between the < and > symbols and put the name of your folder between the : and the first >.
Member only flexible pages
This uses a Google Doc in the members folder of the oga1963uk@gmail.com account. We haven't worked out how sophisticated the Google Doc can be. Keep it simple but feel free to experiment. Report any problems to the GMC.
Publishing a new page is a multi-step process.
- Request access to the shared folder for your own google account by contacting the gmc at gmc@oga.org.uk
- wait for an invitation to the shared folder from oga1963uk@gmail.com
- Go to your Google Drive and find the members folder shared from oga1963uk@gmail.com
- Create a Google Doc in that shared folder that looks like the page you want
- Create a page on oga.org.uk in the Schools Online CMS and add a special piece of text naming the Google Doc
The text on the website page must be something like:
< <doc:my wonderful file> >
Leave out the spaces between the < and > symbols and put the name of your Google Doc between the : and the first >.
