January Social Weekends and Annual General Meetings
I am pleased to announce that OGA Annual General Meetings are not what they were! They are now a weekend social meeting including food, visits, talks and entertainment with a bit of formal business thrown in.
Years ago the formal AGM business meeting was held in London to coincide with the London Boat Show but when the Show ceased the decision was made to hold the annual event in a different location each year, hosted by an OGA Area, and to make it a more attractive event.
The first of these new concept social and AGM events was organised by South West Gaffers, supported by the Bristol Channel Area, and held in Bristol in 2020. This was an outstanding weekend with twice the attendance numbers than London. I'll skip over 2021 as that one had to be entirely on Zoom.
In January 2022 the NE Area hosted another well organised outstanding event in Newcastle equalling the success and appeal of Bristol and so setting expectations for January 2023, to be hosted by the Solent Area.
2023 saw a similar gathering in Portsmouth, where attendees had a private tour of the ongoing work to replank the Victory, as well as a behind the scenes tour of the Boatshed.
in 2024 we wil be assembling in Liverpool, so please look forward to that.
