Boat-building Heritage Craft Centre 9 August
As part of the Whistable Regatta on the 9th August this year, they have teamed up with the Lyme Regis Boat-building Academy and have agreed to organise a Boat-building Heritage Craft Centre. The idea is to gather a number of crafts men and women - shipwrights, sail-makers, etc - who can demonstrate their skills to the general public and have pre-arranged discussions with folk expressing an interest in entering the trade or building their own craft. This activity will be promoted nationally, and in local Secondary schools, as well as being part of the Show. The construction of coracles and the restoration of a 42-foot Oyster Yawl and a Drascombe Lugger will also form part of the display as will Chatham Dockyard's rope-making demonstration.
