Sailing Gaffers by Viv Head

Sailing Gaffers is a book commissioned by the Old Gaffers Association and published in 2013 in time for the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Association in 1963. It was compiled and written by Bristol Channel member Viv Head. It contains many accounts and photographs of notable events across the Areas of Great Britain and Ireland as well as overseas Areas. It is not a chronology; it is about sailing a fascinating range of gaff-rigged boats- some of the people, events, adventures and vessels that have given pleasure to so many people across more than half a century. Yes, and some disasters too. A story that almost certainly helped to ensure the continued existence of the gaff rig and one that has been at the forefront of its resurgence in more recent years. A recommended read.
