Visit 'Sailing by' for historic tales of sail

One of the legacies from the OGA50 anniversary year is the website launched to 'follow the fleet' with historic tales of sail.

Visit 'Sailing by' to find our collection of tales of sail, archive and modern!

If you're interested in contributing to 'Sailing by', please editor [at] sailing-by [dot] org [dot] uk (subject: Article%20for%20'Sailing%20by'%20from%20the%20OGA%20website) (contact to the Editor). The site includes stories from the Baltic, Netherlands, UK, Irish and French coasts, inland waterways and a few Atlantic and Australian historic tales.

Historic 'tales of sail' are published to link with OGA cruises in company and other events around the UK coasts and further afield. In 2019, there were no OGA cruises in company but in 2018, a small fleet joined the 'boule de neige' on passage to Douarnenez. In 2016, 40 OGA boats made the passage to France to enjoy the Brest and Douarnenez Festivals, with a smaller fleet sailing to St Malo in 2015. Find the full set of posts from France here, including related historical 'tales of sail'. There was also a Celtic Cruise in Company, 2016 which is reported here. In 2017, the OGA Cruise in Company Sou' by Sou'west was very popular with over 30 boats taking part.

In 2014, the focus was on the Netherlands as over 60 boats from both sides of the North Sea celebrated the Dutch OGA's tenth anniversary. Visit the Netherlands Tour category of 'Sailing by' to see historic tales, archive video and stories from the Dutch, Belgian and UK fleet.

You can also browse the archive of the Round Britain Challenge, 2013, or find individual articles of historical and local interest from your own sailing area by choosing one of the geographical categories.
