Wit & wisdom rule the waves . . . as oldies smash it

2 million views

A retro yachting YouTube channel launched by former press photographer Bob Aylott in 2016 crashed through the 2 million viewer mark on Christmas Eve. It’s the first video channel in the world where owners talk about and sail their classic boats exclusively on camera.

Bob Aylott, 70, said from his Fareham home, ‘In the niche market of classic boats – it’s massive numbers. We are the most watched classic boat channel in the world. It’s all about old boys and girls having fun on old boats. One viewer described the channel as 'Like an episode of Top Gear only more interesting.’ Other comments include, ‘I shed a tear watching this.’ ‘I haven’t laughed so much in years.’ ‘Last of the Summer Wine...at sea.....brilliant.’

MyClassicBoat with over 100 videos, has filmed on many spectacular and famous old yachts. But it is the smaller affordable boats, around 26-30ft., with fiercely passionate owners and a great sense of humour that has caught the imagination of the masses.
