OGA55 was celebrated in the Bristol Channel Area over the weekend of 20 - 22 July with the “Cardiff Traditional Sail” event.
Although a shower at six sent the BBQ indoors on Friday evening, the weather gods were kind, with Saturday and Sunday warm and virtually cloudless.
Some 20 boats and 45 crew members enjoyed a treasure hunt and river raid in Cardiff Bay and along the Ely River, a sparkling cruise outside the barrage in the Bristol Channel, a race around the cans in the Bay which filled it with red and cream sails, and the final traditional parade of sail.
In the evenings we enjoyed the hospitality of Cardiff Bay Yacht Club where food, drink and excellent musical entertainment were served.
A Bristol Channel Log Boat challenge brought six entries, with a testing course between two pontoons that some of the little vessels found too difficult to complete.
A full report appeared in the OGA newsletter Gaffers Log and Area newsletter, Severn Tidings.
The new OGA dinghy was also seen on the water for the first time in Cardiff Bay.
