The Solent Area AGM took place on Saturday 24th November at Marchwood Yacht Club who as usual made us very welcome. 45 members attending the meeting and the meal afterwards and of course enjoyed the much needed catching up chat with friends and newer members.
This AGM saw a change of committee and we are very pleased that Sue Pennison was nominated and voted in as our first lady Area President, taking over from Tim Aspden who has given us a splendid three years of his time, but is on the move away from this area to the South West.
Our Secretary Marion Shirley also stood down this year after also spending much time and dedication overseeing the Solent events and Jeremy Retford has been voted in as Secretary. Jeremy has served a few years on the committee so knows the ropes well.
We have had a good response to our call for more volunteers and part of Sue's initial activity will be to connect with new volunteers and integrate them into the planning and delivery of future events.
All changes to the committee can be seen on our 'About' page of this website.
We also awarded several trophies at this AGM and the winners are listed below, unfortunately most were unable to attend the evening so no photos available this year.
Seamanship Trophy - Marion Shirley
Friendship Trophy - Tony and Sally Kiddle
Cade Family Trophy - The Erb Family
New Member award - Oliver Barnicoat
Concourse D'elegance - Satellite
The supper was followed by the raffle and a talk given by Graham Dadd and Piers Rowlandson who in their boats Corncockle and Carlotta spent a few weeks of the summer sailing to Douarnenez to the festival and back again to the Solent for the OGA55 event. Graham showed us great photos and charts of delightlful places they both visited, unusually this year with excellent calm weather, moorings they had not been able to get to before.
Sue Pennison also outlined the planned events for our Solent 2019 sailing and other events planned which will be available on this website shortly.
lease keep an eye out for updates of events and notifications of when registrations will be open.
I would also be pleased to receive any photos and write ups of your sailing activities to put on the website. Please send to me at jayis47 [at] hotmail [dot] com.
