Despite mid-week forecasts of storms, this year's Centenary Chase was well attended in great sailing conditions. 20 boats, including 9 gaffers and 6 XODs lined up for a sprint around the Solent. The conditions were at the top end for topsails (F4), but up they went providing a great sight to spectators. Even the rain held off. ‘Charlotte Elizabeth’ lead the fleet away just after 2pm. For once the timings worked well, leading to an exciting finish for the first 3 boats back. The Shaw’s mighty ‘Nomad’ claimed her first win, finally catching ‘Charlotte Elizabeth' moments before the finish line. ‘Ivy Green’ was close behind to take 3rd place. The bermudan rigged boats trailed in behind!
The Royal Solent followed prize giving with a fine steak pie for all.
We’d love to see any more photos of the fleet. Either by Facebook, or email.
